Blue is the colour of the sky, of infinity and the deep ocean. Blue Port Hamburg transforms the face of Hamburg’s port with a tranquil artwork that focuses the gaze on the beauty of the maritime environment.
Blue Port Hamburg is a spectacular citywide light show. As in previous years, the lighting artist is dividing his artwork into two phases: Blue Port Hamburg Art from 1-7 September and Blue Port Hamburg Event, which lights up the port in a magical blue light during the Hamburg Cruise Days. At the Light-up on 1 September, the shoreline in the harbour will be illuminated with the first blue lights; on the following days the installation will grow bigger by the day, lighting up the port and illuminating dozens of buildings, bridges, ships and port infrastructure along the riverside.
The creator of Blue Port Hamburg is the international light artist Michael Batz. His award-winning light projects and concepts have been seen in Salzburg, Cologne, Shanghai, São Paulo, Frankfurt and Berlin. Batz first made a name for himself in Hamburg with Blue Goals, the citywide light installation he created to coincide with the 2006 World Cup. He unveiled his Blue Port Hamburg concept for the first time at the first Hamburg Cruise Days festival in 2008, and is now proud to present the eighth edition.
