Captivating moments at the Hamburg Cruise Days

Day two of the Hamburg Cruise Days 2023: In magnificent late summer weather, tens of thousands flocked to the port to soak up the incredible atmosphere, to be inspired and to experience the highlight of the event – the Grand Hamburg Cruise Days Parade on Saturday evening.

Summer, sun, Hamburg Cruise Days: these three things were in perfect alignment for this year’s event. After the intentionally smaller boutique version last year, in 2023 the Hamburg Cruise Days are back in all their captivating glory – with an attractive, varied maritime programme on land with culture, entertainment, food and plenty of travel information, thrilling highlights on the water and the true stars of the event: the cruise ships.

Magnificent variety – and the spectacular highlight of the event

With nine very different ships, ranging from majestic ocean cruisers to sleek expedition ships and charming river cruise boats, this year’s Hamburg Cruise Days offered a real treat for the watching crowds. At the Grand Hamburg Cruise Days Parade on Saturday evening, five of these impressive ships sailed in formation on the Elbe: AIDAprima, followed by Mein Schiff 6, VASCO DA GAMA, WORLD VOYAGER and MS Sans Souci.

Against the beautiful backdrop of Blue Port Hamburg and with a soundtrack and a commentary by Hamburg-based actor Marek Erhardt, the parade glided downriver – admired by the tens of thousands of spectators, many of whom had come to the waterfront hours in advance to secure the best places. The parade was led by AIDAprima, and each of the following ships was celebrated with its own individual firework display. The evening ended in dazzling style with a colourful firework show over the river.

Great enthusiasm for cruises

The incredible enthusiasm shown by the audience shows clearly that Hamburg and cruises belong together. Co-organiser Katja Derow of redroses communications: “We are delighted that the enthusiasm for this captivating event remains as strong as ever. The Hamburg Cruise Days with its many highlights, such as Rhapsody in Blue and the Grand Hamburg Cruise Days Parade, are an experience for all the senses, one that invites people to indulge in their dreams of the sea and ocean travel.” Co-organiser Uwe Bergmann, uba GmbH, is very satisfied with the first two days of the event: “The fact that our concept still appeals to so many, even after the pandemic years, and that the feedback has been so overwhelmingly positive, is welcome acknowledgement of our commitment to creating a top-quality event.”

One more day to enjoy the world of cruises: Sunday

For AIDAprima, Mein Schiff 6, VASCO DA GAMA and WORLD VOYAGER it was time to say goodbye to Hamburg on Saturday after the parade; MS Sans Souci departed early on Sunday morning.

On Sunday evening, visitors to the Hamburg Cruise Days are called upon to wave their handkerchiefs and mobile phones for the AIDA Sailaway, when the AIDAsol and AIDAperla leave the port of Hamburg together in a stunning spectacle that will leave many cruise fans dreaming of traveling to far-away places. The shore programme ends on Sunday at 8 pm; Blue Port Hamburg will continue to shine until midnight.
